NFL insider: Jets’ fix starts with bringing back this fan favorite, a ‘respected football man’

The Jets’ fate became pretty clear after they fell to 3-8 with Sunday’s brutal loss to the Indianapolis Colts. They’re once again set to miss the playoffs.
The franchise is in need of a savior, and NFL columnist Gary Myers thinks they should bring in Curtis Martin as president of football operations.

“He’s been preparing to get into NFL ownership for years and he loves the Jets, so the Johnsons should sell him a small piece of the team if that would get a deal done,” Myers wrote on X. “Martin is very well respected in NFL circles and would be the perfect face of the franchise. He is best friends with Bill Parcells and it’s never a bad idea to run ideas past Parcells.”
Myers went on to explain that Martin could be in charge of hiring a new general manager, and that he “has a million NFL contacts and is part of Roger Goodell’s inner circle.”
It’s also possible that the Jets will be without owner Woody Johnson for the next few years. During president-elect Donald Trump’s first administration, Johnson served as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom. In that time, he was away from the team and his brother, Christopher Johnson, filled his place.
Martin, a former running back, joined the Jets in 1998 and stayed in New York until he retired in 2006. He’s a respected figure by the organization and around the league, but there’s no guarantee that he would want to take on the job of fixing the Jets.
“Jets fans are tired of starting over,” Myers wrote. “But this team needs a complete overall: Respected football man at the top of the organizational chart.”
